SAFETY TIPS
desperately seeking durability
Whether you're using your double stroller every day or just once a week, the collective weight of two children demands that these strollers are designed to be durable over time-- unless you want to waste your money on a flimsy and potentially unsafe product. One of the surest methods to wear down even the sturdiest stroller is to use in conditions it wasn't designed to endure. At best, a standard double stroller will have large air-filled tires (although this is technically moving into all-terrain stroller territory) but typically they come with large plastic or rubber wheels really meant for sidewalks, indoors, and smooth trails. In addition, make sure your two children are within the prescribed weight limit.
The second way to destroy any stroller is to mistreat it when it's collapsed by tossing it heedlessly into wherever it is you store it and/or throwing heavy objects on top of it.
Eliminating the flimsy models from your search:
- No manufacturer's warranty? Don't buy it.
- Loose pieces? Wobbly parts? Don't buy it.
- Any repeat reports of breakdown? Don't buy it.
- Most anything under $100 is going to last about a year maximum.
Admittedly, you can't resolve all of these issues by simply reading the manufacturer's description, but here at baby-gaga we report even the tiniest failure of stroller integrity.
