SAFETY TIPS
desperately seeking durability
A baby stroller is one of those items you will use nearly every day when your child is an infant and must be durable over time if you don't want to waste your money on a flimsy and potentially unsafe product. The broad range of baby strollers being sold truly runs the gamut: from cheapo-plastic fabrications to beautiful brushed aluminum frames. One of the surest methods to wear down even the sturdiest stroller is to use in conditions it wasn't designed to endure. At best, a standard stroller will have large pneumatic tires (although this is technically moving into all-terrain stroller territory) but typically comes with medium-sized plastic or rubber wheels which are designed to handle the mildest of irregular surfaces. As a general rule, a standard baby stroller is really meant for sidewalks, indoors, and maybe (if you've got a good one) smooth park trails. The second way to destroy any stroller is to mistreat it when it's collapsed by tossing it heedlessly into wherever it is you store it and/or throwing heavy objects on top of it.
Eliminating the flimsy models from your search:
- No manufacturer's warranty? Don't buy it.
- Loose pieces? Wobbly parts? Don't buy it.
- Any repeat reports of breakdown? Don't buy it.
- Most anything under $100 is going to last about a year maximum.
Admittedly, you can't resolve all of these issues by simply reading the manufacturer's description, but here at baby-gaga we report even the tiniest failure of stroller integrity.
