SAFETY TIPS
make it maneuverable!
In terms of steering, standard strollers feature varied wheel-lock designs for straight or winding paths, nearly all are designed with front swivel wheels for ease of turning and a tighter cornering radius. Many higher-end standard strollers feature front wheels that can be locked into position via individual or joint-foot levers, which then allow for easy straight steering on those long straight stretches.
The ease of activating the brake locking-mechanism varies quite extensively per model, with some strollers requiring a simple press of a foot lever at the back of the stroller, while others have small individual wheel locks, which can be easier to activate by hand (a nuisance-factor to keep in mind).
Easy stroller maneuverability comes from having:
- oversized dual wheels (four in back) that don't wear down/eat gravel too easily
- some form of all-wheel suspension
- an ergonomically designed handle (easiest for-one handed steering) or set of handles
- front swivel/locking wheels
- a frame that can handle weight shifts without swerving or veering
