Sleepy angels: Zippers, hooks, drawstrings, and snaps are just some of the seat recline mechanisms found on modern umbrella strollers-some of which adjust more effortlessly and are less intrusive to a sleeping child than others. The standard $20 umbrella stroller offers, at best, one mild (and potentially awkward) recline option, while the higher-end umbrella strollers tend to sport an un-intrusive multi-angled recline that can comfortably support newborns. (Don't forget the head and neck support padding necessary for newborns!).

One smooth ride: Not surprisingly, the lower-priced strollers usually lack any form of suspension and handle only the smoothest mall linoleum and sidewalks without jostling your little one about. On the other end of the stroller spectrum, decent suspension and larger wheels are a typical part of the manufacturing process, although if you take any umbrella stroller off-road, your child is in for more bumps and shakings than even the best umbrella stroller can absorb.

Whether the weather: Most umbrella strollers barely protect your child from anything more than overhead sunlight. So if you live in a sunny area and spend lots of time strolling outdoors, invest in an umbrella stroller that sports an oversized canopy. In terms of additional weather protection, there are also a growing number of higher-end umbrella strollers with attachable rain-covers, some which also include a snuggly winter boot.
